Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov says a prototype humanoid-like military robot is expected within a month, though current units cost $40,000 to $70,000 and would need to drop to $10,000-$20,000 for mass deployment. He described the effort as a step-by-step process toward machines that could reload machine guns, swap sensor batteries, or launch drones, tasks currently done by infantry.
Fedorov said his team is deliberately avoiding the more complex humanoid designs seen in the United States in favor of simpler, scalable models, and is eyeing a company with a viable product to potentially ramp up production. The announcement follows his Sept. 26 launch of an 'Army of Robots' initiative, which he frames as the next phase after Ukraine's 2022 Army of Drones program.

A robot army sounds impressive until you get to the price tag, which is currently somewhere between a decent car and a modest house, per unit. Cutting that by two thirds is not a technical footnote, it is the entire plan, and plans like that have a way of staying a month away indefinitely. Ask again in a year whether the prototype turned into tens of thousands of units or just another slide in a briefing.
