At a Texas rally, President Trump attacked Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico by repeating a false claim that he is vegan, a word Trump has often mispronounced as 'vay-gun,' a flub Jimmy Kimmel mocked him for earlier in the week. This time he got the pronunciation right, crediting an intervention from First Lady Melania Trump, whom he quoted telling him, 'Sir, do me a favor, you have to do me just a little bit of a favor. It's not vay-gun, it's vegan.'

Trump has a long history of recounting strangers addressing him as 'sir,' frequently with tears in their eyes, though he reported no tears this time. Social media users seized on the retelling, with one noting it proves either that all his 'sir' stories are invented or that his marriage is 'even weirder than you thought.'

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
When a man's own wife turns up in his stories calling him 'sir,' you start to wonder how many of the other people saying it were real to begin with. Credit where due, he finally said the word right. He still pinned it on a fellow who isn't one, which is a lot of effort spent learning to pronounce a thing that isn't true.
