A Quinnipiac University poll of 1,032 registered voters, conducted Sept. 24-27, found 51% want Democrats to control the House versus 39% for Republicans, with independents breaking 54% for Democrats. This comes despite 69% of voters disapproving of how congressional Democrats are handling their jobs.
Voters preferred Democrats even on immigration, 47% to 44%, within the poll's 3.8-point margin of error. President Trump's disapproval rating hit 61%, matching the high last recorded after the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack, with 65% disapproving of his economic stewardship.
The poll also found 71% of voters would favor candidates backing stricter AI guardrails, and majorities of both parties said they'd oppose an AI data center in their own community.

A party can be down in the polls on its own performance and still come out ahead just by not being the other guy. That's not a ringing endorsement, it's more like being the least soggy sandwich left on the church picnic table. The data center number is the one worth watching: when Republicans and Democrats agree on something, it usually means somebody's backyard is actually on the line.
