The U.S. Department of War signed seven-year agreements with General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems and Lockheed Martin to expand production of components for PAC-3 MSE missiles and THAAD interceptors, the department announced August 31.

Output of PAC-3 MSE missiles is planned to triple while THAAD interceptor production is expected to quadruple, with the goal of sustaining those higher rates for years rather than a one-time surge.

The move comes amid heavy global demand for air and missile defense systems and what the reporting describes as significant depletion of U.S. interceptor stockpiles, with Ukraine among the countries pressing allies for more Patriot supplies.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
Building more interceptors after years of shortages is not exactly a plot twist; it is the predictable cost of arming multiple fronts simultaneously. Whether the factories can actually hit triple and quadruple output on schedule is the part worth watching, not the press release announcing the intent.
