Experts testify to discovery of three bodies in a well on Mexico beach

A Baja California courtroom heard forensic testimony Thursday about the discovery of the bodies of Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and American Jack Carter Rhoad, found in a well near Punta San José in May 2024. Investigators described gunshot wounds, a burned campsite, a bullet casing, and a fourth, unidentified body pulled from the same well, which the current defendants are not charged over.

Three men face charges of aggravated homicide, robbery, and grand theft auto. Under defense questioning, an investigator who said he interviewed a family member about one defendant's violent history was shown a record dating that interview to more than a week after the bodies were found, despite earlier uncertainty about the timeline. A firefighter also testified that extracting the bodies took over four hours and required gas monitoring due to danger in the shaft.

The defense's strategy so far targets how evidence was collected rather than what it shows. The trial resumes in late September.
