News Helicopter Crashes, Killing 3, While Covering L.A. Bus Collision

A helicopter operated for NBC and Telemundo crashed and burned in the Chatsworth neighborhood of Los Angeles on Tuesday while covering an earlier collision between an SUV and a city bus that had already killed at least two people. The crash killed the helicopter's reporter, Eliana Moreno, and pilot George Marciniw, along with at least one person on the ground; two others were hospitalized. Fire officials said the aircraft was destroyed so thoroughly that its tail could not be located, and more than 50 firefighters responded to extinguish fires it sparked in nearby vehicles and storage containers.

Moreno had flown for the station since 2010 and partnered with Marciniw since 2023; Marciniw was a longtime Southern California resident. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom both offered condolences to the community and the emergency responders who worked both crash scenes.
