Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. delivered the keynote at a Children's Health Defense conference in Washington, an organization he once led that regularly spreads vaccine misinformation. Over more than an hour, he repeated familiar claims linking vaccines to chronic disease, cited a hepatitis B package insert's adverse-event list while omitting its own caveat that such reports cannot establish causation, and claimed new research would finally examine vaccine-autism links researchers have already studied extensively.

Kennedy mentioned measles, the disease currently causing the worst U.S. outbreak in decades, only once, instead framing vaccine injury as the neglected story. Andrew Wakefield, whose 1998 autism-vaccine study was retracted as fraudulent, spoke immediately after him. Major medical groups have already issued their own guidance opposing changes Kennedy has pushed to childhood vaccine recommendations, some of which courts have temporarily blocked.
