The progressive PAC Will of the People is spending $1 million opposing four ballot propositions Arizona Republicans sent to voters on party-line votes, reaching residents through mail, phone, door-knocking and digital ads through Nov. 3. The group's executive director, Alison Marciniak, says voters deserve to know what the measures would do before casting ballots.
Prop. 142 would restrict DEI-related requirements and spending at public institutions; Prop. 144 would require government ID for all ballots including mail-in votes, with no stated method for verifying mail ballots; Prop. 318 would require school sports teams be assigned by birth-certificate sex starting in 2027. The PAC calls these measures deceptive and warns Prop. 144 could gut vote-by-mail, pointing to Texas's 1,300% jump in rejected absentee ballots after a similar law.
Republican sponsors describe their own measures in starkly different terms: Rep. Alexander Kolodin says Prop. 144 would make voting easier without naming a provision that does so, while Rep. Selina Bliss frames Prop. 318 as protecting girls' sports based on biological differences.
