Morgan Geyser, convicted for stabbing her childhood friend 19 times in 2014 after claiming the fictional Slender Man told her to, has filed a fifth petition for conditional release. She had been conditionally released in January 2025 before cutting off her ankle monitor in November and traveling roughly 200 miles to Illinois with a companion before being detained by local police.
A judge revoked her release and returned her to the Winnebago Mental Health Institute before Christmas. Her attorney filed a renewed petition Tuesday, and the court must appoint mental health professionals within 20 days to evaluate her fitness for release.
Records show communication breakdowns during her escape, including a two-hour delay before the group home was notified her monitor had failed, and nearly twelve hours before her victim was informed. The state has opposed her release in all four prior petitions and is expected to contest this one as well.
