Turkey says closed news site over ‘LGBTQ propaganda’

Turkey's Justice Ministry shut down the website and social media accounts of independent news outlet T24, citing 118 pieces of content it labeled ‘LGBT propaganda’ over the past year. The move followed a crackdown weeks earlier that saw authorities raid gay bars, nightclubs, and activists' homes with warrants for 162 people.

T24 said its site was still working and that it had not been formally notified, describing the accusations as part of a smear campaign. President Erdoğan has called the LGBTQ community a ‘deviant movement,’ and the justice minister framed the raids as part of a ‘Decade of the Family’ initiative ahead of an early 2028 election.
