NextEra Energy faces wage theft, break violation claims in California class action

Isaiah Lee Williams-Dismuk filed a class action against NextEra Energy Resources in Alameda County, alleging the company required workers to round time entries down, log overtime only when biweekly totals exceeded 80 hours, and record meal breaks as taken on time even when they weren't. He worked as a level two wind technician from December 2024 to January 2026.

The complaint says employees working outdoors in extreme heat were not provided drinking water, and that workers used personal cellphones for job duties without reimbursement, which California law requires. NextEra Energy, the largest electric power company in North America, did not respond to a request for comment.

Telling employees to write down a lunch break that never actually happened is the sort of instruction that only makes sense if you already know you're breaking the law and just want it in writing that looks otherwise. A company big enough to be eyeing a merger to meet AI power demand can presumably scrape together drinking water for people working outdoors in the heat. That one shouldn't need a lawsuit to fix.
