Stephen Colbert's ‘Late Show’ took home six Emmys including Outstanding Variety Series, months after CBS canceled it. Colbert skipped mentioning Trump in his speech entirely, instead urging people to hire his writing staff.
Backstage, asked directly whether Trump got the show canceled, Colbert feigned deafness in one ear, complimented a reporter's dress, and declared himself his own most important staffer rather than answer. CBS had called the cancellation a financial decision, which arrived while parent company Paramount was seeking FCC approval for a merger that was approved a week later.

Dodging a question by pretending you can't hear it is an old trick, and Colbert ran it like a man who has had a lot of practice not answering. The timing between the cancellation and that merger approval has always looked a little too tidy to be a coincidence, and no amount of trophies changes that math. Winning the Emmy for the show that got killed is its own kind of answer, no name-dropping required.
