Ukraine's Defense Forces liberated the village of Serednie and pushed Russian troops back near Shandryholove in the Lyman area of Donetsk Oblast, according to the DeepState monitoring project's Sept. 15 update.
The Institute for the Study of War reported days earlier that Ukraine had seized battlefield initiative for the first time since the Kursk operation by eliminating a Russian salient north of Lyman, disrupting Moscow's plan to encircle key Donbas cities from two directions.
An OSINT analyst says the operation, launched as early as May, stayed classified for four months while Ukrainian forces cut off the salient and pushed invading troops back over the Zherebets River, with Russian military bloggers now reportedly complaining about their own side's falsified frontline reporting.
