Park Geon-roung, who starred as a seven-year-old in the Baby Shark music video that became YouTube's most-watched clip with over 17 billion views, is preparing for a K-pop debut. He is backed by Pinkfong, the South Korean children's entertainment company behind the original hit.

Pinkfong turning its most bankable toddler into a K-pop hopeful is less an artistic pivot than a franchise extension, and there's nothing wrong with admitting that plainly. Whether audiences follow a shark-song mascot into an industry built on choreography and vocal training remains to be seen. At minimum, the marketing writes itself.
