Vladimir Putin met Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in the Kremlin for about three hours, calling the Ukraine situation ‘complicated’ and praising Trump's continued peacemaking efforts. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said the envoys promised to relay Putin's views to Kyiv during upcoming talks.
The Kremlin itself described the meeting as ‘substantive’ and ‘frank,’ conducted in an atmosphere of trust. A source close to the Kremlin told Reuters that Putin still expects Russia to seize more Ukrainian territory and won't accept the current front line until Russian forces try to take the rest of Donetsk Oblast, a goal the source claims Moscow believes achievable by year's end.
Witkoff and Kushner are expected to continue on to Kyiv for talks with Ukrainian officials.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A man sits across the table calling the war ‘complicated’ while his own people tell reporters he's still counting on grabbing more land before the snow flies. That's not a peace process, that's a fellow measuring the fence before he moves it. Kind words in the Kremlin cost nothing and buy time, which seems to be the only currency anybody's really trading here.
