An anonymous former Nebraska Legislature employee has sued the state and its Legislature, alleging officials knew about Senator Dan McKeon's conduct before a May 2025 incident at a post-session party and failed to act. McKeon, a Republican elected in 2024, resigned this January moments before colleagues were to debate expelling him; he was charged with disturbing the peace and entered a diversion program.
The suit details a pattern after her informal complaint: McKeon attending a staff party and positioning himself facing her, an apology she calls disingenuous, a formal complaint, and later text messages to a coworker she says falsely disparaged her. She reported that matter to the Nebraska State Patrol, which cited McKeon despite a panel instruction barring him from discussing her.
McKeon denied the accusations, pleading no contest before switching to not guilty; his case no longer appears on the court docket. Governor Jim Pillen has since appointed a replacement, and two candidates are now running for the seat outright.
