Trump thanks media for "very fair" Xi summit coverage amid ban fallout

A federal judge temporarily blocked the White House's ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico, restoring live pool coverage just as President Trump wrapped a three-day summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

In the Red Room, Trump thanked reporters for what he called very fair coverage of the visit. The day before, he had posted that CNN and MSDNC were fake news for skipping Xi's arrival, blaming their poor ratings on refusing to credit him.

The visit itself included a state dinner with dishes like sesame-crusted sea bass, a striking upgrade from 2015 remarks in which Trump suggested Xi was worth little more than a double-size Big Mac.

Praise from a man who called you fake news the day before is worth about what a compliment from a dog is worth when you're holding the bacon. The fairness only showed up once a judge made him let the reporters back in the room. From a double Big Mac to sesame-crusted sea bass is quite a climb for one guest, and you have to wonder which reporters get the next upgrade.
