Senator Ted Cruz told Sean Hannity's podcast that Donald Trump's 2016 ‘Lyin' Ted’ nickname, deployed during their bitter primary battle that also involved attacks on Cruz's wife, didn't anger him and was in fact ‘political genius’ because it targeted what Cruz considered his greatest strength: being trusted to keep his word. Cruz called it ‘jiu-jitsu’ and said he wasn't sure whether Trump calculated the insult that deeply or whether it was just instinctual.

Cruz, a potential 2028 candidate, also praised Trump in the same interview for having what he described as ‘cast-iron balls,’ continuing a long transformation from bitter 2016 rival to reliable ally.
