Ukraine's military intelligence agency says Russia has begun fielding an upgraded Geran-4 drone fitted with a shaped-charge warhead designed specifically to sever bridge supports and power line towers. The drone also carries a new navigation suite built around a magnetometer made by U.S. company PNI Sensor, paired with an inertial module and an image-matching guidance system also used on the newer Geran-5.
The engine itself has been swapped from a Chinese-made turbojet to a Russian-built equivalent produced at Alabuga. Since October 1, Russian forces have carried out repeated strikes on Kyiv bridges, including the Pivdennyi and Pivnichnyi spans, damaging supports and road surfaces.
