Ricky Schroder Posts Tone-Deaf, Inappropriate Dolly Parton Tribute

Actor Ricky Schroder, who played Dolly Parton's father in two TV movies based on her life, posted an Instagram tribute after her death that included criticism of her advocacy for transgender rights and COVID-19 vaccines before thanking her for casting him. The post read in part that he didn't agree with her advocacy but loved her anyway, thanking her for choosing him as her “Movie Daddy.”

The tribute drew immediate backlash from celebrities including Boy George, Katie Couric and members of the band Garbage, who criticized the post publicly on Threads. Schroder did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
