A man who commands an army apparently still needs to cite anonymous sources to describe his own war, which tells you something about how much he trusts the report from the front. The odd part is that he doesn't even need the exaggeration, since the real advances are bad enough on their own. Padding a genuine gain with an invented one is the kind of habit that eventually makes even the true parts hard to believe.
