Elections Alberta says it is fending off a wave of social media misinformation ahead of the province's Oct. 19 referendum, including false claims that voter registrations are being deleted from its Voterlink tool. Chief Electoral Officer Gordon McClure insists no registrations have been removed without consent and that Voterlink cannot delete anyone's registration at all.

The referendum itself carries ten questions, headlined by whether Alberta should begin the legal process toward a binding vote on separating from Canada, alongside several immigration-restriction measures on healthcare, education and voting eligibility.

Elections Alberta is also promoting Vote by Mail, open now and closing Oct. 9, as an option for electors who want extra time with the lengthy ballot or won't be around on voting days.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
Nothing inspires confidence in an election system quite like the election system holding a press conference to explain that it definitely didn't delete your vote. The bigger story buried under the misinformation cleanup is a ten-question referendum casually including a secession clause, which Albertans are being asked to consider with the same energy as a satisfaction survey.
