A Florida woman filed a class action against Lennar Corporation and its mortgage arm after a March cyberattack exposed customers' Social Security numbers and financial account data. Lennar says hackers used 'sophisticated social engineering tactics' to breach its systems between March 24 and 30, and is offering affected customers two years of free identity monitoring.

The lawsuit claims Lennar failed to train employees, monitor for suspicious activity, or encrypt sensitive data, despite such measures being standard in the industry. A separate class action was filed by a former Lennar employee, and the plaintiff estimates the affected class numbers in the tens of thousands.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
Calling it 'sophisticated social engineering' is doing a lot of work to make a phishing scam sound like a heist movie. Two years of monitoring is the industry's standard consolation prize for losing data that lasts a lifetime.
