Mediazona names 26 more troops killed in March’s crash of an An-26 military transport plane in Crimea

Mediazona journalists identified 27 of the 29 people believed killed when a Russian An-26 transport plane crashed in annexed Crimea on March 31, including Lieutenant General Alexander Otroshchenko, commander of the Northern Fleet's Mixed Aviation Corps. The plane carried seven crew and 22 passengers; pro-war bloggers claimed at the time that a Su-34 was also lost with another pilot possibly killed.

Nearly five months on, Russian authorities have officially released only Otroshchenko's name and no confirmed cause, with one theory suggesting the aircraft struck a cliff. The rest of the victims surfaced only because tour participants at the Northern Fleet's Severomorsk base photographed a plaque and portraits of 12 other personnel, though names, ranks, and positions weren't legible in the images.
