



A new poll from The 19th and YouGov, conducted in September among over 2,300 adults with an oversample of 18-to-29-year-olds, finds Gen Z women more likely than Gen Z men to call themselves Democrats, liberal, and feminist, and more supportive of abortion access. Gen Z men were more likely to identify as Republican or conservative and more likely to say society would benefit from a return to traditional gender roles.
Political scientists interviewed point to the Dobbs decision, #MeToo, and the first Trump presidency as formative events for young women's politics, while young men's drift is tied partly to online influencers and algorithmic sorting by platforms. Two college students quoted described the Dobbs ruling as personally radicalizing, citing a grandmother's history lesson and a mother's pregnancy complications, respectively.
