Ukraine’s HUR shows Japanese delegation North Korean missile components

Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) showed components of a North Korean-made ballistic missile to Eisuke Mori, speaker of Japan's House of Representatives, and a visiting Japanese delegation in Kyiv. HUR said the inspection helps assess the missile's design and the state of North Korea's weapons industry, and warned that Pyongyang's arms cooperation with Moscow threatens Japan and the wider Asia-Pacific region as well as Ukraine.

The Institute for the Study of War has reported that Russia is positioning to intensify strikes using upgraded North Korean KN-30 missiles, with HUR estimating roughly 50 KN-23, KN-24 and KN-30 missiles delivered to Russia as of July. President Zelenskyy confirmed in July that a North Korean-made missile likely struck Ukraine for the first time in a long period, killing a large family in Radushne near Kryvyi Rih.

HUR also told Reuters that North Korea is deploying a missile unit in western Russia potentially equipped with 120 ballistic missiles and six launchers. Ukraine's foreign minister said any such unit stationed in Russia would become a legitimate target for Ukrainian forces.
