America PAC, the super PAC Elon Musk built in 2024, spent more than $261 million helping elect Donald Trump and other Republicans, according to federal filings reviewed by FactCheck.org.

After the 2024 election, Musk said he'd done enough and planned to scale back political spending; through mid-2025 the PAC had raised over $50 million for the 2026 cycle but spent only about $87,000 on candidates.

The New York Times reported in July that Musk had in fact authorized $100 million to $120 million for a field operation across at least eight states, targeting Senate races in Alaska, Iowa, Maine, Michigan and Ohio, with House spending planned in California, Wisconsin and Washington.

The group's ads so far have leaned heavily on attacking Democratic Senate candidates over transgender issues, with more than $3.7 million spent as of late September, per AdImpact.

A man says he's done enough, then a few months later signs off on a nine-figure field operation in eight states. That's not retirement, that's a guy who told his wife he was quitting poker and then found a new table across town. The only consistent part of the story is that the money keeps moving and the promise to stop keeps getting revised downward in practice, if not in public.
