British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said rejoining the European Union could be among the options his government weighs as it redefines Britain's long-term relationship with the bloc, telling BBC Radio 4 the choices range from a customs union to full EU membership. He called the Conservatives' original Brexit deal more harmful than helpful.
His predecessor, Keir Starmer, had promised Britain would not return to the EU single market or customs union, a pledge Burnham's government formally still holds through the next election. Conservative deputy leader Alex Burghart accused Burnham of reversing himself after promising weeks ago to leave the Brexit debate alone.
A June poll found 60% of Britons aged 18 to 28 would vote to rejoin the EU, with support rising to 81% among likely voters in that age group. Separately, Britain's Home Office began revoking pre-settled status from some EU citizens in August, telling at least 100 people their status had been granted in error.

Saying you're not reopening the Brexit debate while listing rejoining the EU as an option is a bit like telling your neighbor you're definitely not selling the tractor, right before you post it online. The young folks polled seem to have made up their minds already, which tends to happen once the people who voted for something stop being the only ones who have to live with it. Governments love keeping every door cracked open until the day they need to walk through one.
