Angie Nixon shrugs off the Florida GOP attacks that are just beginning

Florida GOP figures including Sen. Ashley Moody and gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds are attacking Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon over her recent DSA membership, with Moody calling her part of an 'I hate America DSA Party.' Nixon, a Jacksonville state representative known as one of the chamber's most liberal members, says she has never called for defunding police and supports abolishing only for-profit prisons.

Nixon dismissed the attacks as inevitable regardless of her DSA ties, saying Republicans would label her a socialist either way, and pointed instead to Moody's role approving a $10 million Medicaid settlement transfer at the center of the Hope Florida scandal. That money moved from a state healthcare agreement to a foundation tied to First Lady Casey DeSantis and then to a PAC chaired by DeSantis's former chief of staff.

Moody's campaign says she had no role in the related grand jury proceedings and would not object to the report's public release. Nixon also cited her introduction of a 2023 Gaza cease-fire resolution and her history as a single mother as evidence she understands working-class struggles better than her opponents.
