Energoatom's supervisory board removed Pavlo Kovtoniuk as acting chairman and management board member, citing a loss of confidence in his ability to execute the board's decisions during what it called a critically important period. Oleksandr Ostapovets, a board member since 2023 and former head of the Zaporizhzhya plant, was named acting chairman to lead through the transition as the heating season approaches.
Two other candidates, Yurii Tkachuk and Pavlo Pavlyshyn, previously won competitive selections for permanent chairman and a nuclear safety board seat respectively and are still going through regulatory procedures. Kovtoniuk had held the acting post since August 2025 after his predecessor's dismissal.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A company that fires its acting chief mid-heating-season and calls it a loss of confidence is telling you exactly as much as it wants you to know, which is not much. The state nuclear operator has now cycled through leaders like a farmer rotating crops, and each time the explanation is the same three words dressed up in a press release. Somebody ought to ask what decisions weren't getting executed, because the statement sure isn't saying.
