The Village of Lytton, B.C., plans to hold its two-day Labour Day festival Sept. 5-6, with organizers saying dates could change depending on wildfire activity, according to the Lytton River Festival Society. The free event, held at the confluence of the Fraser and Thompson Rivers, will spotlight the village's Chinese heritage and the rebuilt Lytton Chinese History Museum, including stories of early Chinese merchants, miners and railway workers.

New this year is gold panning along the Fraser River, alongside a guided cultural talk, live music and dancing. The festival comes five years after the 2021 Lytton Creek wildfire destroyed nearly the entire village and forced roughly 250 residents to flee; society president Jessoa Lightfoot called the museum's rebuilding a testament to the community's resilience.
