A Christian metal band called Demon Hunter has sued the makers of the animated hit 'KPop Demon Hunters' in a Los Angeles federal court, citing confused fans including a mother whose daughters nearly ended up at a metal show. The suit notes the movie's 325 million views against the band's 263,000 YouTube subscribers, apparently unaware of what that comparison implies about who is riding whose coattails. Google searches for the band now surface coverage of the lawsuit itself, not the music.

In a separate case out of Kansas, a judge opened a maritime insurance ruling with a line about a sunken boat and a case that 'keeps on swimming,' involving a company literally named Arch Nemesis LLC. The insurer prevailed because Arch Nemesis failed to fix a promised refrigerator and never produced repair receipts. The piece also recounts a science fiction convention panel concluding that realistic legal fiction is boring, and recommending capes instead.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
There is a particular kind of legal strategy that consists of filing a document to prove you are being ignored, and then reading the docket as fan mail. Courts exist to resolve grievances, not to serve as a discovery algorithm of last resort, though nobody has ever gone broke betting on plaintiffs confusing the two. If the convention panel wants a genuinely unrealistic premise, it should try one in which a party consults a search engine before consulting a lawyer.
