Trial Delayed For Libyan Man Charged In 1988 Bombing Of Pan Am Flight 103

A federal judge postponed the U.S. trial of Abu Agila Mohammad Mas'ud Kheir Al-Marimi, charged in the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, after prosecutors disclosed new evidence to defense attorneys over the weekend. Jury selection had been set to begin this week in what would be the first U.S. trial over the bombing, which killed 270 people including 190 Americans.

The judge scheduled a September 1 hearing to discuss the case's status, citing its complexity and the defense's need to investigate the new material. Al-Marimi, a former Libyan intelligence official now in his mid-70s, is charged with building the bomb and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.
