Russian authorities have expanded security details for state television executives and hosts following Ukrainian attacks on Russian military and propaganda figures, according to sources cited by the independent outlet Agentstvo. National Guard chief Viktor Zolotov reportedly advised one network's management to arrange protection, and guards now escort ‘practically all the TV bosses,’ per an employee at the network.

Not everyone is thrilled: one source noted the guards bring constant surveillance along with the protection, and one host showed up to his own birthday party with a security car in tow. Ilya Medvedev, son of Security Council deputy chairman Dmitry Medvedev, reportedly rates an enhanced FSO detail.

Security for propagandists has been tightening since the early months of the full-scale war, the outlet says, though it was once reserved for only the best-known faces. Putin has also expanded the FSO's central staff to 812 people, the fourth such increase since the invasion began.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
An escort that doubles as a minder tells you plenty about how much anyone trusts anyone else in that building. If the people paid to reassure the country need a guard just to get to their own birthday cake, the message they're broadcasting and the reality behind the cameras have never been further apart. Protection like that isn't a perk, it's a leash with better lighting.
