Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv would halt strikes on Russian energy facilities only if partners can secure a 'genuine' Russian commitment not to retaliate against Ukraine's own infrastructure, adding that Ukraine is 'not convinced' Russia would honor any such deal. He called a halt to infrastructure strikes a potential 'first step toward peace' and said Kyiv is waiting for specifics from its partners, understood to mean the United States.

President Trump said Monday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed not to strike each other's energy infrastructure, without offering details of the arrangement. Trump had called on Ukraine on September 13 to stop striking Russian diesel facilities. Moscow has not commented on Trump's claim of an agreement.

You'd think a deal between two countries at war would involve, at minimum, both countries agreeing to it. Instead you've got one president announcing a ceasefire that the other side describes as a hope pending 'specifics,' and the third party hasn't said a word. That's not diplomacy, that's a man telling the neighbors his fence is fixed while the post is still lying in the yard.
