Ukraine tests automatic warning system for gas stations amid Russian attacks

Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi announced Ukraine is testing an automated system to alert gas stations of approaching Russian drones, following a meeting with fuel operators and officials from five ministries and security agencies. The system tracks drone direction and would let stations respond before impact; if successful, it will expand to other businesses.

The initiative follows a string of strikes on Ukrainian retail and fuel infrastructure, including distribution centers for major chains and Ukrnafta gas stations in Kyiv, where attacks on Sept. 10-11 killed two people and injured a dozen more. Officials also discussed protective structures, shelters for staff and customers, and measures to keep fuel logistics and customs moving as global oil prices climb.

The government paired the drone-warning pilot with a broader review of Ukraine's fuel balance and rail shipment plans, modeled partly on emergency measures from 2022.
