Two dead, others still missing after Grand Canyon floods

A second body was recovered Monday after flash floods driven by nearly two inches of rain tore through the bottom of the Grand Canyon Saturday, damaging roughly 40% of the Transcanyon Waterline and destroying footbridges across Bright Angel Creek. At least 15 hikers remain unaccounted for, and the Park Service is asking the public for help identifying them after evacuating 62 people by helicopter.

Phantom Ranch, Bright Angel Campground and the North Kaibab Trail remain closed as search and recovery continues, with more thunderstorms forecast and a flash flood watch in effect until midnight Tuesday. Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs said the state is coordinating with federal and county emergency officials to support the effort.
