ICE denies violating court order barring warrantless arrests in Oregon

A federal judge in Oregon heard arguments over whether ICE violated a February injunction barring warrantless immigration arrests, after plaintiffs presented testimony that agents used pre-filled warrants and on-site approvals to bypass the order.

An agent identified only as JG acknowledged under oath that his arrest record wasn't truthful about when the warrant was prepared. A Deportation Data Project attorney testified 504 of 574 Oregon arrests since February were noncustodial, which plaintiffs say means mostly warrantless, though the government disputes that reading.

Judge Kasubhai gave both sides a week for supplemental briefing and did not indicate when he'd rule.

When a man admits under oath that his own paperwork didn't say what happened, the argument about what the numbers mean gets a lot shorter. The government wants a week to explain how 504 out of 574 is really something else. That's the same energy as a boy scrubbing the dent out of the fender before his dad gets home.
