Ukraine's SBU security service said long-range drones traveled roughly 800 kilometers to strike Russia's Engels airfield, damaging a Tu-95MS strategic bomber along with an ammunition depot and a fuel storage facility, per its Telegram statement on Aug. 28. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the SBU's Alpha unit carried out the strike, and satellite imagery reportedly shows significant damage.
The SBU says this marks the second Tu-95MS it has disabled in recent months, following a July 17 strike that destroyed a bomber's tail section. The agency says such strikes are part of a systematic effort to degrade Russia's capacity to launch air-based missiles.
