President Trump demanded U.S. companies stop buying Bombardier jets, calling the Canadian manufacturer's planes inferior and accusing Canada of treating America like a piggybank. Bombardier employs roughly 1,200 people at its defense headquarters in Wichita, Kansas.

Kansas Republican Senators Roger Marshall and Jerry Moran both pushed back publicly, with Marshall noting he'd already raised the issue inside the Oval Office and Moran contacting the administration directly about the state's manufacturing stakes.

This follows a similar clash last month when Senate Republicans objected to a beef-import plan meant to lower grocery prices, with Wyoming's Barrasso leading that dissent. Canada has responded to the broader tariff fight with roughly $20 billion in retaliatory tariffs targeting pro-Trump states.

Senators who've spent years voting for every tariff put in front of them are suddenly discovering that trade wars have a return address. Funny how the piggybank metaphor stops working once it's your state's payroll getting shook.
