ICE has begun targeting and detaining Haitians living in Springfield, Ohio

ICE has detained at least 29 Haitians in Springfield, Ohio, since the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to end temporary protected status for 330,000 Haitians, a status that officially lapsed July 27.

Detainees are being held at Butler County Jail, which held 1,105 people as of Friday against a recommended capacity of 756, while community members describe arrests at shopping plazas, a car wash, and a gas station, including of a local pastor.

Springfield's mayor says the city has no control over the enforcement, while community advocates describe residents wearing ankle monitors, afraid to leave home, and being summoned from out of state over past residency in the city.
