Russian rapper Morgenshtern told YouTuber Yury Dud that people connected to Russian authorities offered him a path back into the country if he publicly endorsed the war in Ukraine, either through a visit to occupied Donbas or a public apology. A third option, he said, was paying $1 million to have the matter quietly resolved.
Morgenshtern refused all three, saying he doesn't believe he did anything wrong. He left Russia in November 2021 amid an investigation into his work, was later designated a “foreign agent,” and in April 2026 was fined 7 million rubles in absentia with his Moscow property frozen.
