The White House issued a proclamation for National Hispanic Heritage Month praising Hispanic Americans' contributions across the military, law enforcement, healthcare, clergy and government. It credits the community with helping make America 'the greatest and most prosperous Nation in the world,' a claim offered without evidence because proclamations don't require any.

The message pivots partway through to promote the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, citing no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security, an expanded child tax credit and new 'Trump Accounts' for children. None of these provisions are specific to Hispanic Americans, but the proclamation folds them in as part of the holiday tribute anyway.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A tribute that spends half its breath on a tax bill isn't really a tribute, it's a sales pitch with a bow on it. Say thank you or hand out the brochure, but doing both in one page tells you which half the writer cared about. And any time a government calls itself the greatest in the world without offering so much as a receipt, you can bet nobody in the room asked for one.
