Actor Shriya Saran said she was not invited to some award shows despite Awarapan receiving nominations, after the 2007 film underperformed at the box office, calling the experience disheartening. She told Pinkvilla she initially credited the film's later cult popularity to its soundtrack and Emraan Hashmi's performance, but now believes audiences connected with the story itself.
