Outgoing Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko alleged that NABU Director Semen Kryvonos faked adopting a child in 2009 to gain amnesty and dodge a vote-buying investigation tied to bribing university students. Kravchenko released a recording he says confirms the sham adoption, and prosecutors have charged Kryvonos with forgery, carrying up to five years in prison.

Kryvonos denies the allegations and says he hasn't been formally charged; NABU and Ukraine's anti-corruption prosecutor's office call the case a 'systematic attack' on independent institutions. President Zelenskyy has called for Kravchenko's dismissal, and Ukraine's parliament votes on that dismissal Sept. 15. Kravchenko recorded his allegations on video before departing for what he described as a scheduled business trip to Lithuania.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A prosecutor who files his big accusation and then hustles across the border on a conveniently timed business trip is not projecting the confidence of a man who expects to win in court. Whatever happened with paperwork in 2009, the timing of this one in 2026 tells its own story. Institutions accusing each other of 'systematic attacks' while their chief accuser is somewhere over the Baltic is not a system functioning as designed.
