Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers has told Michigan voters he worked an automotive assembly line building Chrysler LeBarons, but research shows he actually worked at Cars & Concepts, a Brighton aftermarket shop that modified already-built vehicles into convertibles, not a Big Three factory. The UAW, which endorsed his opponent Abdul El-Sayed in June, called the claim inflated and said Rogers never described the work this way when the union courted him decades ago.

Rogers' campaign insists the distinction is an insult to small manufacturers and maintains he drilled A-pillars and riveted panels while cars moved down a line, just not one Chrysler owned outright. The company, founded by a former GOP congressman who once held the same House seat Rogers later won, was best known for installing removable sunroofs, not building LeBarons from scratch.
