Cheetah cubs at Prague Zoo are doing well after a period of strong storms and their mother’s illness

Prague Zoo reported that five cheetah cubs born June 18 to a mother named Daenerys are doing well, despite being born outdoors during a stretch of severe storms and their mother later suffering an intestinal infection. Curator Pavel Brandl said Daenerys, though a first-time mother, cared for the litter well under difficult conditions.

Cheetahs face high infant mortality in the wild from predators and disease, and zoo staff caution it may take a year to know if the cubs will survive fully. Fewer than 7,000 cheetahs remain in the wild, making each surviving cub significant to conservation efforts.
