President Asif Ali Zardari has approved a major salary increase for Pakistan's Supreme Court judges, aligning their pay with judges of the Federal Constitutional Court, effective retroactively from December 10, 2025. The Chief Justice's basic salary rises to Rs1.55 million monthly and other justices to Rs1.5 million, up from Rs1.1 million, a roughly Rs400,000 jump, with judicial allowances also rising by about Rs338,837 to Rs1.5 million.

The package, to be issued as the Supreme Court Judges' Salary Order 2026, also raises pension-related age thresholds from 70 to 75 and from 85 to 90, and adds a Rs150,000 monthly medical allowance. Judges will additionally collect arrears covering the retroactive period.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
Judges awarding themselves, via the executive, a pay bump backdated eight months and padded with a medical allowance and looser pension rules is the kind of self-dealing that would raise eyebrows if literally any other profession did it to itself. Calling it 'alignment' with another court's pay scale is a tidy way to avoid saying 'raise,' but the arithmetic gives it away.
