British counter-terrorism police arrested five men on suspicion of explosives offenses and preparing a terrorist act near RAF Fairford, a U.K. base long used by U.S. bombers, after a call about three suspicious vehicles approaching the site early Sunday. Roughly 85 households were evacuated as a precaution while Army explosive experts examined vehicles inside a 400-meter cordon; the men remain unidentified by police.

President Trump told reporters the operation was 'an amazing job' and declared 'we got them,' claiming the suspects had been on U.S. and U.K. radars for a long time and were 'looking to do big damage' to the facility — details police have not confirmed and the suspects have not been named to support. A prime minister asks the public not to speculate while the facts get sorted out, and a few hours later a president is telling reporters exactly what the suspects were planning, like a man who read the ending of a book somebody else is still writing. Maybe he's right. But 'we got them' is an awful lot of certainty to hang on five unnamed men and a cordon nobody's finished searching yet.
