‘We have something to say’: Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov says Russia ready for new round of trilateral talks with US, Ukraine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told an ambassadors' roundtable that Russia is ready for a new round of trilateral talks with the US and Ukraine, insisting Moscow never refused to negotiate and that prior breakdowns were not Russia's fault, per TASS. He also plans to meet Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the UN General Assembly later this month.

Trump's envoys pushed for a return to the trilateral format after visiting Moscow and Kyiv in early September, with both sides floating October and Abu Dhabi as a possible venue. Three earlier rounds happened in January and February 2026 with nothing since.

American media report CIA Director John Ratcliffe, who visited Moscow in late August, could become the lead US negotiator with Russia.

Every few months somebody in Moscow announces they are ready to talk, like a neighbor who keeps saying he will finally fix that fence but never buys the lumber.
